BEKA Cookware, more than 100 years of tradition and innovation
BEKA is an originally German brand of cookware, which was bought by a Belgian group a few years ago. The brand is sold all over the world in department stores, hypermarkets and luxury cook shops.
BEKA stands for top quality design in the finest materials, in order to obtain maximal cooking pleasure. We continuously strive to improve and reinvent ourselves and our products. Our designers get their inspiration in new cooking trends and in everyday life.
Today we challenge young designers to give free rein to their creativity in the kitchen. Create an original and user friendly cooking utensil and who knows, next year you might find your design in cooking shops all over the world!
The assignment
What to design: a non-electric cooking utensil. Important are the design's originality, user-friendliness and look, but the production cost has to stay realistic. An optimal balance between price and quality is an absolute must. An ecologically friendly design will be given extra credit and might end up in our Eco-logic by BEKA product range.
Attention: the design has to consist of a utensil in which you effectively prepare food or drinks (tea/coffee). This can be a regular fry pan, a fondue set (working with a burner with burning oil or paste) or even a tea kettle (in metal). Your design should be fit for mass production and overseas transportation.
What not to design: cooking aids like a garlic press, a knife, a cutting board, a simple bowl or a dish. We are looking for original casseroles and pans, woks, fondue sets, steamers, etc.
What do you need to send in?
- A presentation drawing of the design in 3D + aspects
- A clear technical drawing + description of the materials and production methods that were used
- A letter of application in which you explain why you chose these materials and this design
