Use and maintenance

Does it matter how high I set the heat?

Do not place your cooking utensils directly on a hot hob in order to avoid thermal shock (which means that the bottom may shift and warp). BEKA pans can withstand extreme temperatures at both ends of the spectrum, but sudden, extreme changes can shorten their working life. We therefore recommend that you heat up your cookware slowly: start with a low heat and increase to a medium heat.

It is also best to avoid exposing your pans to a shock at the other extreme. Allow cookware to cool completely before running cold water over the surface

As the core of BEKA cookware conducts heat very efficiently, we recommend that you use these pans on a low to medium heat. In general, you do not need to use our pans on high heat.

Do not leave empty pots standing over a hot hob for a long time - this can damage the pan, the non-stick coating and even your cooker.

How do I clean my pan? Can I put my BEKA cookware in the dishwasher?

Not all BEKA products can go in the dishwasher. This depends on what they are made of. We recommend that you do not put any BEKA items with non-stick coating or a wooden handle in the dishwasher.
Instructions for use in the oven or dishwasher can be found on our website’s product page, the packaging and in some cases on the bottom of the product.

How do I season in my carbon steel pan?

Not all pans need to be seasoned as not all materials require it. The only part of the BEKA range that requires seasoning is the Nomad collection because it is made of carbon steel. Seasoning a carbon steel pan creates a natural non-stick coating without any chemicals. On our blog there is a step-by-step plan for seasoning your pan and a few handy tips for use and maintenance.

How do I best clean and store my pans?

Wash your pan with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge. Avoid the dishwasher – the harsh agents in dishwasher tablets can damage the material. Let the pan dry thoroughly, and store it with a pan protector in between to prevent scratches when stacking.

Problems with your pan

Why is the bottom of my pan warped or unstable?

We understand that this can be frustrating and are happy to look into the issue with you. Rust should not occur on stainless steel or aluminium cookware. If you do notice rust on a pan made from those materials, please contact our customer service at support@beka-cookware.com so we can take a closer look.

For cast iron or carbon steel pans, some rust is more common, especially if the pan wasn’t dried properly or was stored in a humid environment. Lingering moisture and high humidity can cause rust to develop on exposed metal areas.

What can you do?
Luckily, rust is usually easy to remove. Soak the affected area in white vinegar, then gently scrub it with a scouring sponge.

If you’re using a cast iron or carbon steel pan, we recommend re-seasoning the pan after cleaning. This helps protect the surface and prevents future rust.

Always dry your pan thoroughly after washing and store it in a dry place – optionally with a cloth between stacked pans.

The handle of my pan is loose or broken – what should I do?

We understand that this can be frustrating and are happy to look into the issue with you. A loose or broken handle can happen for a couple of reasons. Damage during transport is one possibility, but it can also be the result of a manufacturing issue, such as a faulty weld or rivet connection.

What can you do? Get in touch with our customer service team. In many cases, this is covered under warranty or we can offer a suitable solution.

Why are there stains or discoloration on my pan?

We understand that this can be frustrating and are happy to look into the issue with you. Stains or discoloration can appear for several reasons. One common cause is overheating – high temperatures can change the color of the metal surface. Hard water may leave mineral deposits like limescale. And when cooking starchy foods like pasta, a rainbow-like film can sometimes form on the pan.

How to fix it?
These marks can be tough to remove with just soap and water. Try using white vinegar or a stainless steel cleaner for a more thorough clean. To prevent future discoloration, cook on low to medium heat and never let your pan boil dry – that could cause permanent damage.

My pan doesn’t work on induction – what should I do?

We understand that this can be frustrating and are happy to look into the issue with you. If your pan isn’t working on an induction hob and you see an error message, there could be a few reasons. The base of the pan might be too small for the cooking zone, which means the hob doesn’t recognize it. It could also be that the pan isn’t properly centered on the zone, which can prevent detection.

To avoid this, always check the diameter of the induction base as indicated on the packaging to make sure it’s suitable for your hob. Also, make sure the pan is placed right in the center of the cooking zone for the best performance.

My food sticks to my (non-stick) pan. What can I do?

Food sticking or burning is often caused by heating the pan too quickly or using too high a temperature.
Tip: heat your pan gradually to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking.

Something still burned? No worries!
Soak the pan in warm water with a splash of cleaning vinegar. Then scrub gently with a dish brush and some dish soap. Your pan will be clean and ready to use again in no time!

Non-stick & coating

Do BEKA non-stick pans contain harmful substances like PFOA?

No, none of the BEKA products contain PFOA.

We guarantee that all our BEKA items are completely free from PFOA. All our non-stick coatings comply with strict European food safety regulations, so there’s no need to worry.

My non-stick coating is damaged, is this harmful?

A non-stick coating with scratches, pits, or one that has been overheated can start to peel. Accidentally ingesting small flakes of Teflon, PTFE, or ceramic is not harmful to your health and will pass through the body naturally. However, underneath the non-stick layer, there is usually aluminum. Direct contact between your food and aluminum can be harmful to your health. As soon as the layer beneath the non-stick coating becomes visible, we recommend replacing your non-stick pan.

My non-stick pan is sticking — what should I do?

Over time, the non-stick properties of your pan may deteriorate. Overheating, dishwasher use, or general wear and tear can all contribute to this. A less effective non-stick coating is not harmful in itself, but you will need to use more fat or oil to prevent sticking.

However, if parts of the coating start to peel and the aluminum layer underneath becomes visible, you should be cautious. At that point, it’s definitely time to replace your pan. Take it to a recycling center so the materials can be properly recycled.

How can I prevent damage to my non-stick coating?

The non-stick properties of a coating can deteriorate due to improper use. Overheating, using sharp utensils, or exposure to dishwasher chemicals can all negatively affect the non-stick performance. Below are some tips on how to best care for your non-stick pans.

  • Do not place your non-stick pans in the dishwasher. The chemical mix in dishwasher tablets can damage the coating. Handwashing with a soft cloth or sponge is highly recommended. Thanks to the non-stick surface, handwashing is quick and easy.
  • To maximize the durability of your non-stick pans, we recommend using them only over low to medium heat. High temperatures can also wear down the non-stick coating.
  • Avoid using sharp objects when cooking with or cleaning a non-stick pan. Wooden, silicone, plastic, or nylon utensils are all perfectly safe to use. Utensils with rough or sharp edges can damage the coating, so we strongly advise against using them.
Compatibility & usage tips

How do I know if my pan is suitable for induction?

Not sure if your pan is suitable for induction? You can test it quickly and easily with a magnet. Hold the magnet against the bottom of your pan — if it sticks, your pan is compatible with induction cooktops.

Where is the diameter of a pan measured?

When referring to the diameter of a pan, it always means the diameter measured at the top edge. This helps you determine the correct lid size.

We also mention the induction diameter on each product detail page. This is the diameter of the contact surface on the bottom of the pan that touches the cooking zone. This measurement is important for induction cooktops, as they only heat the area that is actually covered by the pan base. If the induction diameter is too small compared to the cooking zone, it may result in inefficient heating or the cooktop not recognizing the pan at all.

How do I know which lid fits my pan?

To find the correct lid size, measure the inside diameter at the top edge of your pan. That measurement determines which lid will fit.

Please note: not all pans are designed to be used with a lid. For cooking methods that require a lid (like braising or simmering), we recommend using a sauté pan or casserole, which are better suited for that purpose and provide a proper seal.

Can my BEKA pan go in the oven?

Not all BEKA products are oven-safe – it depends on the material and design. For instance, if your pan has a handle made of bakelite or wood, we advise against using it in the oven, as these materials are not heat-resistant.

To check if your pan is ovenproof, take a look at the usage instructions on the product page of our website, on the packaging, or – for some models – on the bottom of the product itself.

Do I need to season my pan?

Whether you need to season a pan depends on the material. Cast iron and steel pans benefit from seasoning, as it helps build a natural non-stick layer and prevents rust. Pans with a non-stick coating don’t require seasoning — they’re ready to use straight away. When in doubt, always refer to your pan’s user manual.

Warranty on Beka product

Do Beka products come with a warranty?

Yes, each Beka item comes with a fixed warranty period, which may vary depending on the product. This warranty covers manufacturing defects – damage or faults caused during the production process.

You can find the exact warranty duration on the product detail page of the item.

For proper care and to avoid any warranty misunderstandings, we also recommend checking our Care & Use section on the website.

What are the warranty terms and conditions?

The warranty is only valid for household use and in accordance with the maintenance and usage instructions. Defects caused by negligence or improper use are not considered manufacturing or material faults. The same applies to the effects of normal wear and tear (e.g., discoloration and scratches). To make a warranty claim, a proof of purchase is required. Click here for more information about our warranty policy.

How long is the guarantee on my BEKA product?

You can invoke the guarantee if you find a defect due to faulty materials and/or manufacturing or in the course of household use.

The warranty period varies, depending on the material used and the type of product. The warranty period is always specified on the packaging of your BEKA product.
If you no longer have the packaging, you can also find this information on our product pages.

If you cannot find your BEKA product here, it may be part of an old collection. In that case, you can always reach us through our contact form. We will then provide you with the correct information as soon as possible.
