Thai Beef Salad

Fresh, peppery, sweet, salty, spicy… Who said eating healthy had to be boring? Complex flavors, easy to make, and especially delicious to eat – this Thai beef salad ticks all the boxes.

Preparation – step by step recipe

  1. Finely slice the garlic, ginger, chili, and coriander stems and add to a mortar. Grind into a paste.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, soy sauce, fish sauce, lime juice, and sesame oil, and add the paste from the mortar. Stir to mix.
  3. Finely mince the shallots, and chop the cucumber, pepper, and spring onions. Add to a bowl along with the coriander and Thai basil leaves.
  4. Sear the steak in a Chef frying pan and season to taste.
  5. Slice the steak, mix together with all the ingredients, and add the dressing.
  6. Enjoy!

Optional

  • If you’re having trouble finding Thai basil, you can replace it with regular basil or mint for another flavor profile.
  • Omit the seeds of the bird’s eye chilis for less spice.
  • Want to turn it into a full meal for two people? Add some glass noodles.

200 g good quality beef steak
2 shallots, finely chopped
1 sweet pointed pepper
1 cucumber
1 cup of coriander leaves (save the stems)
1 cup Thai basil leaves
4-5 spring onions

For the dressing

2 cloves of garlic
2 bird’s eye chilis
1 tbsp ginger
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp fish sauce
2 tbsp soy sauce
Juice of 1 lime
